In conjunction with performance
engagements, Colin offers the following music related programs and
services, many on a reduced fee or voluntary basis.

Concerts or musical visits to elder care and
memory care facilities, hospitals, outpatient clinics: 60-90
minute presentations with lots of interaction, using portable
instruments and a wide range of music. The emphasis is on the
great songs of the 1930’s and 40’s with plenty of recognizable
music, traditional styles and conversation.

School assemblies for K-6: These 60 minute shows
are designed to be fun and educational. They feature live
demonstrations of a variety instruments including piano,
keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins, recorders,
Irish whistles, and world percussion in a fast moving
interactive format. American history and culture are presented
in an engaging concert assembly.

Standards-based classroom presentations for K-6:
These in-class sessions are designed to address specific music,
reading, and math standards in 45-60 minute blocks. Group
percussion, singing, movement, and interactive music are used to
teach a variety of subject units. Kindergarten and first grade
offerings include classes on letter names, primary numbers,
counting, single and double digit addition and subtraction, days
of the week, months of the year, holidays, American history, and
more. Higher grades are offered units on Colonial history,
Civil War history, the songs of the Great Depression, the
history and influence of the blues in American culture,
beginning music theory including basic chords, keys and scales
for non-players and players alike, basic public speaking and
microphone technique. The presentations are designed to work
with existing curriculums and needs of local teachers.

Piano classes and workshops: 1-3 hour sessions
covering practice methods, memorization techniques, arrangement,
left hand patterns, historic blues and boogie styles, and
improvisation, for intermediate to advanced players.

Americana, Blues and Roots Music workshops: these
are fun, informative 1-3 hour sessions for beginning to
professional players and groups. The emphasis is on learning
and playing traditional songs, listening, improving ensemble
skills, arrangement, and group improvisation. See Also:

Music theory and ear training seminars for Middle
School and High School music students: Fast moving 60-minute
sessions that teach chords, keys and scales. This is a time
tested method that has brought a new level of musical
understanding to hundreds of people in a simple and extremely
effective way. At the end of the session, students will be able
to form all the major or natural minor scales, any major or
minor triad, and any major, minor, dominant, half-diminished or
diminished seventh chord, in any key. Although aimed primarily
at Middle and High School students, many teachers and other
professionals have found this extremely beneficial.
All these programs can be
customized to meet specific community needs.
